WomeNpowerment in Coops is an initiative promoted by Coopermondo and the Commission of Women Manager Cooperators. Supported by Confcooperative, it is meant to be a space for dialogue and training in which Italian and international cooperatives meet to discuss and prove the added value of the cooperative movement for the achievement of gender equality and the emancipation of women and girls.
Seventeen women managers cooperators and aid workers regularly meet with the aim of training on issues concerning women empowerment and international development cooperation, of developing tools to be used in development projects, of discussing and sharing good practices. A group always open to welcome new women interested in these topics.
Through this project, Confcooperative aims at contributing to the achievement of the United Nations SDGs, with particular reference to n. 5 of the 2030 Agenda “Achieving gender equality and promoting the empowerment of girls and women”.
The first concrete result was the elaboration of the handbook “WomeNpowerment in Coops – The contribution of Italian cooperative experiences for achieving gender equality in the world”. Published on March 6th, 2018, the handbook offers basic notions on development cooperation and tools to address gender issues in difficult contexts, through the observation lens of the Italian cooperative business model, its experiences and its positive actions.
